Harnahalli

Harnahalli

in this village (8 km from Arsikere on the road to Hassan) there are two beautiful temples of the Hoysala age.

Someshwara Temple:
This is on the outscorts of Haranahalli. The traditional bands of architecture and the beautiful line of other wall sculptures in the upper tier are found as usal. The images of deities in this sculpture are excellent. The main door being on eastern side is furnished with Jalandras and Kakvaasas. Doors are there on the south and the north sides too.

In the sanctuary there is a Sivalinga called Someshwara. Round pillars bedeck the navaranga stretching in front of the sanctuary. The Bhuvaneshwari sealing and the Hoysala features of architectures are very fine to look at. A beautiful peak shines on the top of the sanctuary.

Keshava Temple:
Keshava Temple is the other temple in Harnahalli situated at the center of the whole village. On the outer wall there are the usual architectural bands and above them are 24 forms of Sree Mahavishnu along with the miniature images of several other deities.Inside, a navaranga of round pillars and then a sanctuary enshrining the idol of Kaesava can be witnessed.

An attractive traditional shikhara is there over the garbha gruha. Outside, is a small temple containing the image of Narasimha in it. The temple of the Devi, the eternal conort of the Lord, which was there originally has been in the ruins now. A fortress runs round the town, but is in a dilapidated condition now.
